More Blessed Than You Know

We live in a generation consumed by consumerism, often without realizing it. Consider a visit to McDonald’s—if an order is incorrect, we simply ask for it to be remade. Sadly, this same mindset has infiltrated the church. Many approach their faith with the question: “What can the church do for me?” rather than seeking how they can contribute to the body of Christ. This mentality drains the joy from life and distorts our understanding of service and commitment.

When this consumer-driven mindset is applied to Godly marriage, work-life balance, family, and ministry, we tend to compartmentalize our lives. We create hierarchical priorities—placing God first, followed by family, then ministry, then business. However, this approach is flawed. Jesus must be the center of everything we do. There is no balance we can create on our own, nor is there a formula for a perfectly structured life. Scripture does not speak of balance; rather, it declares,

Romans 8:14 – “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God”.

The only way to maintain harmony in life is by being led by the Holy Spirit. Life is like a pendulum, constantly shifting between different seasons, and that is completely natural. The Holy Spirit directs our focus to different areas at different times. We must not allow a consumer mindset to overshadow kingdom priorities. Yes, family is essential, but true health in any area of life comes only when we prioritize God and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us.

There is no formula for balance. At times, certain aspects of life require more attention than others. Consider a newborn in a household with older children—the newborn naturally receives more care. Similarly, when a family member falls ill, they require greater attention. Balance, in the way we often seek it, is an illusion. Instead, everything must align with the kingdom of God.

Ministry, career, family, and business are all part of God’s kingdom. When the Holy Spirit leads, He provides the true balance we seek. The key to alignment in life is periodic self-evaluation with the Holy Spirit. Ask Him, “Where do I need to correct my course?” If life feels out of balance, instead of striving for human-made formulas, we must seek divine direction. The best place for this reset is in the presence of God, particularly in His house. A weekly, quarterly, or annual reset allows us to realign with the Holy Spirit’s leading and maintain focus on His will.

There is no universal system for structuring life perfectly. Different seasons demand different priorities. Over eight years of marriage, no two years have looked the same for my spouse and me. Yet, through it all, God has led us higher and higher. This is the wisdom I offer you for a Godly marriage: Keep God at the center, and let Him direct every aspect of your life.

The word “blessing” appears frequently throughout Scripture—around 400 times in the Old Testament and over 100 times in the New Testament. However, its meaning has often been reduced solely to financial prosperity. While financial blessing is indeed biblical, the true blessing of God encompasses every aspect of life—emotional, mental, physical, relational, and yes, financial. When God’s blessing rests upon a person, it touches every area of their existence. In my years of ministry, I have observed that nonbelievers often have more sincere friendships than Christians. This is because they are not entangled in the struggle of separating their religious and personal lives. Yet, as believers, we must recognize that there is no division between the secular and the spiritual—everything in our lives must revolve around Christ. Conversations about Jesus should flow naturally in our daily interactions because He is the center of all things.

Blessing is a recurring theme in Scripture, yet some reject its message due to past negative experiences or extreme teachings. However, we must not discard the truth along with the distortions.

Ephesians 1:3 – “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places”.

We are already blessed in Christ.

Imagine being stranded in the middle of the ocean in a boat without paddles or an engine, helplessly waiting for the wind to blow in the right direction. Many live their lives in this way—praying for a breakthrough while feeling powerless. However, we are not victims; we are blessed. The blessing of God is like an engine that empowers us to move in the right direction. Rather than blaming circumstances, other people, or even the enemy, we must take responsibility for our lives.

Hebrews 2:14 – “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil”.

The enemy has already been defeated—our role is to walk in the victory that Christ has given us.

The only weapon the enemy has is deception.

2 Corinthians 4:4 – “The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” .

The victim mentality is one of the enemy’s greatest deceptions. You are not a victim of your past, your upbringing, or your circumstances. It is time to take responsibility and step into the fullness of God’s blessing.

God has given us free will, a gift so powerful that we can choose to reject Him. Yet, many feel powerless against the enemy, forgetting that they have the authority to resist him. There is no true competition between God and Satan—God reigns supreme. We must stop living as if we are victims and instead embrace the truth that we are blessed in Christ.

We have the power to choose the direction of our lives. God told Israel,

Deuteronomy 30:19 – “I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live”.

The choice is ours. Challenges may arise, but they are not insurmountable. In fact, the presence of great obstacles often indicates that we have stepped into our promised land.

Numbers 14:24 – “But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it”.

If you face overwhelming challenges, take heart. What seems impossible for you is possible with God. Giants in the land are not meant to intimidate you but to confirm that you are in the right place.

Romans 1:16 – “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes”.

The gospel is not a message of escapism; it is the power of God at work in our lives. You are not a victim. You are blessed. Stand firm in this truth and walk boldly in the victory that is already yours in Christ.

You are not a victim; you are blessed. This means you have the power to lead your life in the direction you choose. Choose wisely. If you choose Jesus, you will have abundant life. However, if you do not choose Him, you will face the consequences of that decision.

You do not have to die to experience hell—life without Jesus is already an existence of suffering. Conversely, you do not have to wait until death to experience heaven. By choosing Jesus, you can start living in the reality of heaven here and now. The gospel is not merely about reaching heaven or avoiding hell after death; rather, it is about experiencing eternal life in the present. It is about being in a relationship with our Creator, our Savior, the One who has redeemed us.

Eternal life is not simply life after death—it is life with Jesus.

John 17:3 – “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”.

Do not reduce the gospel to a transaction for heaven and hell; the gospel is about Jesus. It is about knowing Him and walking with Him. Without a relationship with Jesus, even if one were in heaven, their life would still be empty.

Having a relationship with Jesus is the essence of the gospel. Therefore, do not choose Jesus merely as a means to enter heaven—choose Him because you desire Him. Jesus is the ultimate blessing. He is the only blessing you will ever truly need.

Romans 8:32 – “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”.

When you choose Jesus, He is the complete package of your blessing. Some may say, “I don’t need blessings; I just need Jesus.” But Jesus Himself is the blessing. In Him, you have everything you need. The blessings and Jesus are inseparable.

Jesus is your healing. Jesus is your redemption. Everything you need is found in Him. If something is not found in Jesus, it is not worth having.

2 Peter 1:3 – “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness”.

God has blessed you with all things. You are the creator of your life’s direction; your choices shape your destiny. Your choices are so powerful that you can even say no to God. But instead, choose Jesus. Choose Jesus over finances, over health, over every earthly concern, because in Jesus, all true blessings are found.

Without Jesus, anything you have is not a blessing. Even a million dollars without Jesus is a curse. In Jesus, however, every true blessing is available. Make Him your priority. Any misalignment in your life should be corrected by making Jesus your number one—your only one.

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose”.

This verse does not say that everything in life is good. It does not even say that everything happens for a good reason. But God can bring good even out of the worst situations. The condition, however, is that this promise is for those who love God and respond to His love. God loves everyone, but when you respond to His love, you become connected to His power. Like plugging into an electrical socket, everything He has starts flowing into your life. Even when the enemy intends evil, God will turn it for your good.

If you want to experience this blessing, you must respond to God’s love.

1 John 4:19 – “We love because he first loved us”.

Worship is the natural response of those who truly know God’s love. If you struggle in worship, it is likely because you have not yet grasped the depth of His love.

True knowledge of God’s love is not just intellectual—it is experiential, consuming your entire being. When you are fully aware of how much God loves you, you cannot help but worship Him. God’s love is unconditional. He loves you as you are, even with all the struggles and battles you face. He does not force His love upon you; He respects your free will. Unlike darkness, which invades, God waits for you to choose Him. One prayer God will never answer is, “Take away my free will.” He desires a relationship, not robotic obedience. Therefore, choose Him willingly, and as you do, His power will work in you to overcome the things that once enslaved you.

The only way to dispel darkness is by turning on the light. Instead of focusing on your struggles, focus on Jesus. Let His presence drive out everything that does not belong in your life. Jesus is the light, and when you fix your eyes on Him, all else fades away.

Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.

It’s a verse many know, but few focus on the previous verse:

Romans 3:22 – “The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe”.

We are often more conscious of sin than of righteousness, more focused on the devil’s work than on God’s power, more aware of death than of life. But when theology becomes problem-centered, we become problem-conscious. Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus, the solution.

No matter the challenges you face, focus on Jesus. Problems may still exist before and after prayer, but your perspective will change.

Prayer empowers you to face challenges with faith. You are not a victim; you are blessed. Every challenge is an opportunity for growth and promotion. When Joshua and Caleb saw the giants, they did not see an obstacle—they saw an opportunity.

Numbers 13:30 – “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it”.

Their faith was not based on empty positivity but on their consciousness of God’s power. Even life’s struggles are stepping stones toward your destiny. God uses challenges to equip and prepare you. Do not despise small beginnings. Every step you take in obedience is bringing you closer to your divine purpose.

You are blessed to be a blessing.

Genesis 1:28 – “And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth’’.

God’s blessing is not meant to be hoarded—it is meant to be shared. Just as the body expels waste to stay healthy, blessings must flow through you to others. If you hoard blessings, they become toxic. Generosity is not about a specific amount; it is about faithfulness with what you have. Whether in finances, time, or kindness, be a blessing.

Live a life of integrity, where your faith is not compartmentalized. Do not be faithful in church yet dishonest in the workplace. Let Jesus be the Lord of your entire life. When people encounter you, they should encounter Jesus.

Three truths to remember:

  1. You are not a victim—you are blessed.
  2. Your free will is powerful—choose God over everything else.
  3. You are blessed to be a blessing.

Selfishness is the curse of this generation, but as believers, we are redeemed from it. We are not called to an isolated faith of “Jesus and me” but to a community of “Jesus and us.” Be led by the Holy Spirit. Walk in your calling, and live as one who is truly blessed.
